About
About The Seattle Heat Pump Company
One kind of work, done carefully: ducted air-source heat pumps for houses in Seattle and King County.
What we do
The Seattle Heat Pump Company plans and manages ducted air-source heat pump projects in Seattle and King County. That covers new installations on existing ducts, replacing an older heat pump, converting oil and gas furnaces, dual fuel systems that keep a gas furnace as backup, air handler replacement, and the oil tank decommissioning that often comes with an oil conversion. The installation work is carried out by licensed and insured contractors.
The focus on ducted systems is deliberate. About half of Washington single-family homes use a furnace as their primary heat (NEEA, 2022), and those ducts are the most valuable thing a heat pump project can reuse, provided they move enough air. Getting that right takes duct testing, careful sizing and attention to the return side, which is where a focused practice earns its keep. We do not install ductless mini-splits. When a house has no ducts and no practical way to add them, we say so and point you toward a ductless specialist.
How a project runs
- Assessment. A Manual J heat loss calculation, a static pressure test on the ducts, a look at the panel and the outdoor location, and a conversation about what you want from the system.
- Design and quote. Equipment sized to the load, not to the old system's tonnage, with a line-item quote that shows duct work, electrical scope, permits and the rebates that apply.
- Permits and rebates. Refrigeration, electrical and, where indoor equipment changes, mechanical permits, plus rebate paperwork such as City Light's contractor discount or Seattle Clean Heat for oil homes.
- Installation. Outdoor unit, indoor coil or air handler, line set, drain, thermostat and any duct changes, sited to meet Seattle's noise rules.
- Commissioning and inspection. Airflow, refrigerant charge, defrost and backup heat settings checked and set, including the energy code's limits on when backup heat may run, followed by the city's final inspection.
The installation process guide walks through each step in more detail, and the Seattle heat pump guide covers the bigger decisions.
How we talk about prices
Every price on this site is a published range with its source and check date, never a teaser. The cost estimator and the cost guide show what moves a quote. Your real price comes from measuring your house.
